Dr. Cudore L. Snell Named to Fulbright Specialist Roster

Dr. Cudore L. Snell, DSW, LICSW, Assistant Provost for International Programs and Professor at the Howard University School of Social Work, has been recommended by the Peer Review Panel for placement on the Fulbright Specialist Roster. This prestigious and competitive opportunity is administered by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and World Learning. Dr. Snell's tenure officially began on October 18, 2024, and will run through October 18, 2027.

The Fulbright Specialist Program, part of the larger Fulbright Program, was established in 2001 by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). The program pairs highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills, gain international experience, and learn about other cultures while building capacity at their overseas host institutions. Specialists are selected based on their knowledge, skill sets, and demonstrated ability to make a significant contribution to projects worldwide.

“My hope is to be matched with social work universities in South Africa, where I can teach and offer workshops on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and Prevention Research,” Dr. Snell said. “This award not only allows me to contribute my expertise but also enables me to serve as an ambassador for Howard University and our School of Social Work.”

The Fulbright Specialist Program is distinctive within the Fulbright portfolio because host institutions abroad lead the project development process. This ensures that requested expertise addresses critical needs for the institution’s growth and development. The program also emphasizes sustained collaboration, encouraging Specialists to continue working with their host institutions long after the initial exchange to create opportunities for ongoing cooperation and consultancies. Dr. Snell’s selection underscores his academic and professional achievements, leadership in social work, and commitment to fostering meaningful international partnerships.

I am both humbled and honored by this prestigious and competitive award to champion not only social work but also to serve  as an ambassador for Howard University  and our School of Social Work.
