Alumni Spotlight: Brandi Pittman, MSW, LCSWA
We’re proud to spotlight Howard University School of Social Work alumna Brandi Pittman, MSW, LCSWA, on the publication of her children’s book, Feelings Are A Part of You.
Brandi is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate whose professional work centers on supporting the emotional well-being of children and families. Through her clinical training and hands-on experience, she recognized how important it is for young people to have the language and tools to talk about their feelings in healthy, age-appropriate ways. That insight became the foundation for Feelings Are A Part of You.
Written with young readers in mind, the book encourages children to explore their emotions, express themselves openly, and learn basic coping skills they can use in everyday situations. It also serves as a tool for parents, caregivers, and educators who want to start conversations about feelings and emotional awareness without making the topic feel overwhelming or complicated.
For Brandi, early emotional education a core part of healthy development. She believes that when children learn early on that all emotions are valid, they are better equipped to communicate, build relationships, and navigate challenges as they grow.
Brandi also grounds her work in the belief that education has the power to shape futures. As she notes:
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” — Nelson Mandela
Feelings Are A Part of You represents one way Brandi is extending her practice beyond traditional settings and into the everyday lives of children and families. It also highlights the many ways our MSW alumni continue to contribute to emotional wellness, learning, and community support through creative and innovative means.
